A CO2 laser cutting machine is a computer-controlled (CNC) system designed for cutting and engraving a wide variety of materials using a laser beam with a wavelength of approximately 10.6 micrometers. The core of the system is a CO2 laser tube, where an electrical discharge excites a gas mixture (primarily Carbon Dioxide, along with Nitrogen and Helium) to produce an intense beam of infrared light.
This invisible beam is then directed by a series of mirrors (galvanometers in laser engravers or a gantry system in flatbed cutters) and focused through a lens onto the material's surface. The concentrated heat energy from the beam rapidly melts, burns, or vaporizes the material along a predetermined path, resulting in a high-quality, precise cut with a smooth finish.
