Its core working principle is: the lumber (typically rough sawn timber) is fed through an feeding mechanism into a machining center equipped with multiple cutting heads. These cutter heads are precisely arranged around the four sides of the material (above, below, left, and right). In a single pass, the machine can perform sawing and planing operations on all four surfaces of the wood.

Working Principle of a Four-Sided Saw 

A four-sided saw, also known as a double mitre saw or a precision cutting saw, is a type of CNC (Computer Numerical Control) machine tool used to precisely cut all four sides of a material (like wood, aluminum-plastic composite) in a single pass. Its core working principle involves simultaneously cutting the material with four high-speed rotating saw blades (two vertical and two horizontal).

The typical workflow is as follows:

Loading and Positioning: The operator places the material to be processed (e.g., a wooden strip, board) into the feeder on the worktable. The machine is usually equipped with pneumatic or mechanical clamping devices to secure the material firmly.

CNC Setup: Processing parameters, such as the required length, width, and angles for each cut (e.g., 45-degree angles for a picture frame), are entered into the CNC system.

Feeding: Servo motor-driven precision rollers or belts feed the material at a constant speed into the cutting zone.

Simultaneous Four-Sided Cutting:

As the material passes through the cutting zone, the two vertical saw blades (on the sides) activate simultaneously to precisely cut the left and right edges of the material.

At the same time, the top and bottom horizontal saw blades activate to precisely cut the top and bottom edges.

The speed, feed rate, and cutting depth of all four blades are precisely controlled by the computer to ensure smooth cuts and accurate dimensions.

Unloading: The finished cut material is conveyed to the unloading area where a stacking device collects it.
